Lisa Anderson
Lisa Anderson is a curator, cultural strategist and advisor working at the intersection of contemporary art, cultural leadership and institutional strategy. Her practice explores how art can deepen belonging, strengthen cultural ecosystems and create new possibilities for collective imagination.
Working across museums, galleries, public institutions and the commercial art world, Lisa develops exhibitions, strategic partnerships and cultural initiatives that bring artists, collectors, organisations and audiences into meaningful dialogue. While her work is rooted in Black British and diasporic contemporary art, it is equally informed by broader interests in materiality, landscape, performance and practices of repair.
Lisa is Associate Director at Messums London and Founder of Black British Art, an independent platform advancing the visibility, understanding and long-term cultural and economic value of Black British artists. Previously, as Managing Director of Black Cultural Archives, she led the organisation through a significant period of organisational development, strengthening its strategic direction, partnerships and public impact.
Her curatorial projects include Soulscapes and The Ground Beneath: Material Memory and the Resilience of Hope, both recognised for creating thoughtful encounters between contemporary art, history and social imagination. Alongside her curatorial work, Lisa advises artists, collectors and cultural organisations on strategy, partnership development and cultural positioning.
In 2024, she received the Precious Award for Leadership in recognition of her contribution to the cultural sector. Her current research explores the concept of curating as repair; the proposition that exhibitions can function as spaces of connection, dialogue and civic imagination, helping communities envision more equitable and shared futures.
