Keith Piper
Keith Piper is a Black British artist, curator, and Emeritus Professor of Fine Art at Middlesex University. A founding member of the BLK Art Group (active 1979–1984), he has exhibited internationally over the past four decades.
His practice responds to specific social and political issues, historical relationships, and geographical sites. Prioritising a research-driven approach, his work spans painting, photography, and installation to digital media, video, and computer-based interactivity.
He was recently commissioned by Tate Britain to respond to Rex Whistler’s 1927 mural through a new film installation, Viva Voce (2024), and subsequently completed a commission for the Biennale of Sydney titled 22 Yards of Soil (2026). He is currently undertaking a Caird Research Fellowship with Royal Museums Greenwich.
